It began with a visit from the ranger, Kitane Valin.
Things had been going smoothly since the mother and daughter duo, Sundari and Nadja, returned to Waterdeep from their travels in Ruathym. The ageless assassin and her fledgling warrior-daughter found themselves welcomed in Legendary Delights amongst friends and family, with the young girl content to be back in her birth-city. However, it was when Kitane darkened the doorway to Nadja’s prosperous tavern that marked the beginning of another Long Road, and an adventure that would change the lives of all who traveled its ceaseless, winding path.
Sundari had been marked, and the Nubian assassin had a vague idea of who had such knowledge of Sundari’s connection to the woman. Nadja took her daughter, and the two fled across the sea, through portals to a realm beyond Toril. For all the fleeing they did, it served them little, as whatever force sought Sundari’s life had tracked them across the Trackless Sea and through portals that could have led anywhere; anywhere but to safety. The duo was met by the rogue, Dereena Na’Fhiel, and when it was discovered that Kitane too, had been tracking the pair’s footsteps, Nadja made the choice to return to Waterdeep, and from there discover the source of their quandary.
And then the revelation came.
The sword Sundari carried, Avashi Wanyamaru, was the source of their woe. The mysterious sentient godblade had a darker twin, and its location was rumored to be within the Anauroch Desert; more specifically, the City of Shade, where not even the gods would dare to tread. Nonetheless, Nadja refused to be a mother bereft of her child for want of a stupid hunk of god-forged steel, and the Rogues of Waterdeep set out to retrieve the other blade, before it fell into the wrong hands.
But their problems are only just beginning, and as Hadrhune's eyes are drawn toward them, they find themselves faced with decisions and situations that would change them all…or destroy them.

The Adder returned, side by side with her daughter, Sundari. If there was anything the Adder had learned on her fleeting sojourn, it was that she had been soured on the romance of the exotic. She had long since cut her ties and losses and moved on, her heart husked hollow and cold. Sundari did not press her mother, her intuition was enough to sense that the woman would soon come to terms with her fate. The Adder resides now in Waterdeep, preparing for another journey, with Sundari as her companion. Where the two will go is unknown to neither their companions nor themselves, but Nadja has finally realized that it should have always been this way.

Things had been going smoothly for the Adder and her companions in Waterdeep, and with Sundari's return to the realm at the tender age of six, things seemed inordinately content in the Adder's household. Nadja took fewer contracts as the months wore on, and business in Delights was good as usual. Nadja's contracts took her all over Faerun, and with each return home she brought gifts for those closest to her. Life was good, and the pay was just as well. There was a specific contract that drew her away, however, toward Cormyr, and she found herself crossing paths with one of the Unseen she had never expected to see: Haiaku the Devil. On a whim, she struck up a companionship with the calm Devil and now makes way toward Turmish...

Second thoughts are often wiser than first impressions.
...or so the saying went. Nadja had gone to Calimport and no more than a few months' time later, had died twice over and jumped port. Shipwrecked on her way to Waterdeep, the Adder stayed hidden beneath Faerun's scrying radar for some time, regrouping herself and coming to a decision as to whether or not she would continue on to her friends or not. No more than scant weeks later, she had retieved what remained of her weapons scattered along the rocky coast and set out on foot toward Waterdeep. The twins, anxious for her arrival, sent word all over the region and none responded for none could find the viper. She'd hidden her tracks too well to be discovered by mere couriers. The Adder arrived, bone-weary and fatigued on Legendary Delights' doorstep, only to find that Maribasse had returned as well. With little preamble, the older warrior embraced the viper in a silent apology. Nadja, too tired to care much for her former adversary's intentions, accepted the apology and wordlessly sequestered herself in her quarters, leaving the Black Widow to manage the restaurant alongside the twins. Thus, the Adder had returned to Waterdeep for good, and it was even rumored that she would hang up her blades in favor of a gentler lifestyle.

It began with a letter.
Maribasse; She's in Persia. Get to Waterdeep immediately.
Some people had thought her a mad woman for simply leaving in the middle of the Orisa Festival. She simply vanished, taking nothing with her but her weapons and what few belongings necessary. Maribasse Koumbassa was hailed all over the rich West Coast as Africa's greatest heroine. While she was a deadly assassin, she always worked with the ulterior motive to better the people. She had grown up in a harsh time of civil strife and hostility that threatened to tear Guinea apart. At a tender age she decided that she wanted to better the situation of her people. She joined the renegades in social upheaval, training just as hard as any man, and surpassing many of them in a short amount of time. In the following years she became highly proficient in the art of poisoning. It made her extremely hard to trace and infamous. Everyone knew what she was, but none could prove it -- and none could contest it lest they forfeit their lives at the end of her scimitars. She fought with an unparalleled ferocity that was much akin to possession, and yet, her visage was as calm a lake in the dry season. Nothing could get her to lose her temper.
Until now.
A long time ago, she had been paired with another assassin of ineffable skill. She was beautiful, for one of half-breed lineage, and charming. The woman could kill as coldly and smoothly as frost but her intentions were almost never pure. She killed for the highest bidder, be they the corrupt government or the people themselves. Nadja Saa'iqa Maharat was a venomous viper to the core.
Maribasse loved her like a sister. The two of them had completed their mission with little interference, and thus made haste to part ways, with promises to stay in contact should one need the other. Two months ago, Maribasse had been imprisoned for crimes she had committed many years past. On the eve of what was to be her execution, there was bedlam caroling all along the perimeter. Nadja came to collect her friend, and the two made a break for the Gambian border. Now Maribasse would be forced to free her friend from the clutches of the very kin who had deceptively erected her to affluence in Persia's mighty empire. Clutching the letter in one gloved hand, she mounted her black Arabian and made haste for the Steppes, hoping to hitch with a caravan that would take her to Algiers and beyond.
